Experimental Two - The Sun:

As part of my development I chose to focus on how my overall theme of 'the sun' could be emphasised throughout by work. I decided to express this by create a set of adjustment layers to apply to each photograph, enhancing the saturation and warm tones. As this was part of my experimental work I chose to overemphasise these enhancements, taking inspiration from advertising in the 1960's (especially by Coca-cola.)

These adjustments created a playful approach to my photographs whilst also making them seem aged, contrasting with the modern clothing of the models. The connotations of orange and yellow are happiness, attraction and most importantly, heat. I therefore felt that these were the colours that should be most visible within my work as they have positive connotations and will consequently result in the viewer giving more of their attention to the photograph.

My Work:

I chose not to apply these adjustments so heavily to my final piece as I felt that it made the photographs quite animated and this was not the outcome I wanted for my work, however I did find the process useful as it allowed me to gain a further understanding of how to colour an image effectively. I also found I learnt the importance of creating a colour scheme within your work, especially when trying to sell a product. For example, the advertisements I found were trying to sell coke and Budweiser and a colour scheme was clear within this advertising meaning that the consumer begins to associate a colour with that brand. This may also be prominent in fashion photography as brands want to portray their clothing in a certain way and will therefore think about the connotations of the colours they use before finalising their work.
